The Future of Energy, Geopolitics and Belgian Policy

A lot of people still think energy is mainly a topic for engineers, but it really is not. It influences politics, prices, international relations, security, and the choices governments make. This event is meant for anyone who wants to better understand how major global shifts in energy and geopolitics end up affecting Belgium too.

During this evening, we will explore these questions through three different but complementary perspectives.

Rafaël Fernandez from SCK CEN will bring the perspective of one of Belgium’s best-known nuclear research institutions.

Pr. Al Gammal will place the topic in a broader international context, drawing on his academic expertise in energy and geopolitics.

Stien Schrauwen, from the Cabinet of Minister Mathieu Bihet, will offer a policy perspective and insight into how these issues translate into real political decision-making in Belgium.

Together, they will help shed light on how energy, geopolitics and policy are becoming increasingly interconnected in today’s world.
This event is open not only to engineering students, but to anyone interested in politics, economics, public policy, or current affairs more broadly.

Registration is free but required, so please make sure to reserve your spot via the ticket link.

After the talks, we will continue the evening with a small reception, giving everyone the chance to stay, talk, and exchange ideas in a more informal setting.
